djh secret santa 2009

i jumped in with this years DJH secret santa.. and was drawn with
djh uber poster and all round italian stalion fabiofal.
he sent me a lovely blend of disco into house action.. really great!
ill post that one up.. once i get my burner working.. (out come the spanners!)
i sent him 3 discs of unmixed but slightly blended randomness..
of i must say a moody disposition (sorry fab:))

my favourite remix of 2009 is...

I've known ben gatto fritto for quite a while now
and i must say he is one of the nicest men
in showbiz.
From this horizontaly charged mind, comes some
of the best music from the last couple of
years.
For me, the GATTO FRITTO remix, of one of this
years hyped tunes, ROCHA'S 'hands of love' ticks
all the boxes i like ticked.
lots of delay, tricky tricks, disregard for the
conventions of the current dancefloor.. DEPTH!

It wasn't up on you tube, and i had some spare SPACE
1999 footage floating around so...

upton house friday night youth club fantasy #1

Upton house youth club, football in the sports hall
and FILM NIGHT where as impressionable teenagers we
were shown the warriors, countryman, snake in monkeys
shadow, the big boss and BABYLON!
Farrar slacks, Adidas sambas, crisps and dub.
celuoid visions of worlds we were still not party to.
From the viewpoint of now, i cant remember any
supervision at all, no teachers on late night duty
patrolling the corridors of this 60's concrete and
asbestos nightmare we called our secondary school.
Like some lord of the flies inner city youth experiment.
The hallways filled with mysterious older boys and men far
too old to be part of our school.
People, up to male shenanigans for sure, excitement to
be part of this evening meeting place not actually taking
part in any activities just hanging out.
This is a fantasy selection to evoke the flavour of the dance,
Sir Biggs, Saxon, Tubbys, the speaker boxes and the hall
in total darkness only the lights from the booth and the
occasional flare as a lighter ingnites spliffs and the
mysterious coded language of the dj as he guides us through
the evening.
this selection is for the children, the boys who i grew up
with, shared in these moments, ran with and played with.

APOSTROPHE - does humour belong in editing edit #1

I love frank zappa - all of it from the mothers right through to
the large concrete classical gear!
this was more of an excercise in editing the uneditable.. getting rid of
the tangents and locking down a groove.
this is the first stage, as im gonna fiddle with the sonics at some point
and pass it through some jamaican style filtering and delays to see
if i can strain an altogether different flavour from it.
but as it stands at the moment, im feeling the funk of it!
next in this series is some fiendish wackiness from the altogether
mighty Hermeto Pascoal :)
